2nd Journal
My Sophomore year at Lindsay High School has been exciting and successful in comparison to my last year. There really haven’t been any low points this year or anything that I would change. I am very proud of all my accomplishments and how much I have grown as a person. Specifically, I am glad that I have been able to correct some of my errors that I made my Freshmen year. Most notably, upon reflecting I am not satisfied with my performance academically my first year at the school. Upon further inspection, the reason for my dissatisfaction with my performance can be traced back prior to my high school career. When I first entered high school my academic mindset was that I was among the most intelligent and didn’t need to work hard. However, towards the end of the year I noticed that this was simply not enough. Up until that point I was comfortable simply passing with the minimum as it did not require any extra work. A large part of this issue in my head had to do with not being accepted into the AVID program my freshmen year. It wasn’t until I noticed that several of its members were doing better than me, that I became interested in going beyond than average. For this reason, one of my greatest accomplishments this year would have to be applying once more and being accepted into the AVID class. Similarly, I also fixed the overall issue of not striving beyond an average grade. This has by far been my most academically successful year. Although two semesters worth cannot completely balance out my 3.0 GPA average from year, I have begun to slowly raise my GPA. The AVID program has also allowed me to get involved in extracurricular activities. I have been able to get involved through food booths and fundraisers. Above this, I also joined my first club that is being offered at the school. I joined the Future Business Leaders of America or FBLA. Joining this club provided me with some memorable experiences that I was able to share with some of my friends. Furthermore, I’m glad that I was able to join this club for the reason that it looks good on a college application. FBLA is known to be one of the most beneficial clubs as it can provide you with helpful experience if you are planning to enter the business field. My plan after high school is to attend a four year university and entering the business field is a possibility for me. Even though I am not completely sure of what I would like to major in, I am currently preparing myself for the time when I have to apply to college. With my sophomore year nearing an end the time to apply to college is getting closer. It is a goal of mine to continue to prepare myself by raising my GPA and taking challenging courses. Even more so, my AVID instructor is helping create a much clearer path towards my goals of attending a four year university than ever before.
